Erma Cocherell

Erma F. Cocherell, 92, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at Willows of Arbor Village in Mount Pleasant.

Born May 8, 1914 in Rome, she was the daughter of Ralph H. and Etna Jane Messer Sammons. On Nov. 17, 1932, she married Charles Monroe Cocherell in Kirkwood, Ill. He died April 30, 1981.

She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1932. She moved with her husband to Mount Pleasant in 1943. She was a member of Trenton United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 2561 of Mount Pleasant. She was a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and needlework.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Holcomb of Mount Union and Marilyn Alter of Mount Pleasant; one son, Harold Cocherell of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband, two brothers and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 12 noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cocherell will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trenton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey P. McPheron and the Rev. Kent D. Leydens (her grandson) officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

A memorial has been established for Trenton United Methodist Church.
