NEW LONDON - William Beckel, 73, New London, died at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, March 26, in Veteran's Hospital, Iowa City.

He was born Aug. 23, 1907, at New Rockford, N.D., to Carl and Elizabeth Slath Beckel. He married Shirley Hagemeier Sullivan April 11, 1952 in New London.

He was a World War II Air Corps veteran.

Surviving: his wife; three daughters, Mary Jo Passafaro, Davenport, and Shelly Kay and Darcy E. Beckel, both at home; stepdaughter, Linda Grafton, Pasadena, Texas; brother, Charles Beckel, Walla Walla, Wash.; three sisters, Anna Hanke, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Paula Pritchard and Emma Premo, both of Minot, N.D., and four grandchildren.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday, Elliot Chapel, the Rev. Hidetoshi Tanaka; Burge Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
