Helen Grinstead

Helen May Grinstead, 82, of New London Nursing and Rehab Center in New London, formerly of Burlington, died at 4:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born March 28, 1923, in Lowell, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Ida Zachmeyer Watson. She married Raymond D. Grinstead.

Ms. Grinstead worked in data processing for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and J.I. Case Co. She retired from J.I. Case in 1987 after 14 years of service.

She was a 1941 graduate of Danville High School. She was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7641 and was a past president of AARP and JFWC.

Survivors three sons, Keith Grinstead of Quincy, Ill., John Grinstead of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gary Grinstead of Fort Madison; three daughters, Peggy Jenkins and Lorna Hempen, both of Las Vegas, and Sandra Anderson of Indianapolis, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, two grandsons, one sister and three brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with family meeting friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Grinstead will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Jackie Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville.

A memorial has been established for the Diabetes Association.
