Marion Orndorff
Marion Orndorff, 99, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born Oct. 7, 1906, in Keota, she was the daughter of Thomas Achilles and Pearl Divelbiss Morris. On Dec. 27, 1935, she married Frank Collar Orndorff in Macomb, Mo. He died May 15, 1995.
Mrs. Orndorff taught home economics in Morning Sun and Yarmouth. She then moved to California and substituted in schools and women's prisons.
She was a graduate of Keota High School. She received her teaching certificate at Iowa State University and took graduate classes in California. She was secretary of the San Bernadino, Calif., Airstream Unit and along with her husband traveled with the group for five years. She enjoyed woodworking with her husband and built houses with him. She was involved with the California Junior Republic for Boys, where her husband was principal. She was a member of the Girl Scout Council in San Bernadino and was instrumental in getting a Girl Scout house built. She also was a homemaker, was president of her church women's circle, worked on cancer drives and was involved in the Lions Club Eye Banks after her cornea surgery. She was an avid reader.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherrill Medeiros of Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
There will be no visitation.
The graveside inurnment for Mrs. Orndorff will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Burge Cemetery in New London, with the Rev. Sue Tomlinson officiating.
A memorial has been established for the Mount Pleasant Library.
