HOWARD H. HARLAN

Howard Henry Harlan, 82, of Rocky Mount died Tuesday, May 16, 1989 at Memorial Community Hospital in Jefferson City.

He was born July 31, 1906 in Hillsboro, Iowa to Walter A. and Lily Tade Harlan. On Feb. 4, 1928 he was married in Monmouth, Ill. to Esther A. Shelman, who survives.

Mr. Harlan was employed by the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 30 years and as a mail carrier for eight years. He was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Eldon, local and National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons. In 1973 he moved from Burlington, Iowa to Ft. Pierce, Fla. where he lived for 10 years before moving to Rocky Mount in April of 1984.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, H. Eugene Harlan of Anderson, Ind.; a daughter, Helen H. Martin of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Ruth Hoaglin of Hillsboro, Iowa and Jensen Beach, Fla., and Lola Belle Sainsbury of Hillsboro, Iowa and Utterson, Ontario, Canada; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral serves were held at 1:30 p.m. May 18 at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, Iowa with the Rev. Kenneth Carpenter officiating. Burial was in the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.

A memorial has been established at the Fellowship Bible Church in Eldon.
