MRS. SUSAN ROPER RITES ON FRIDAY

Susan Wiggins Roper, daughter of George and Pricilla Wiggins, was born Aug. 6, 1848 near Lowell, Iowa. She died April 21, 1937.

She lived most of her life in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, until coming to Keokuk to make her home with her daughters.

She was married to Arthur Roper Jan. 28, 1868. He preceeded her in death 57 years ago. Mrs. Roper leaves three daughters, Mrs. Elbert Cole and Mrs. C. J. Chrestensen of Keokuk and Mrs. Samuel Patrick of Los Angeles, Calif; three grandchildren, Emily Roper Cole, Florence Cole Van Zandt and Florence Eloise Chrestensen. Two great-grandchildren, Richard and Carolyn Van Zandt.

Mrs. Roper was a member of First Westminster church, Keokuk.

Funeral services will be held in Keokuk at one o’clock Friday and a short service at Forest Home, Mt. Pleasant, at three, where she will be laid to rest in the Roper lot beside her husband. The services will be in charge of her pastor, Dr. Warren Conrad.

Mrs. Susan Wiggins Roper will be well remembered by the older residents of Mt. Pleasant and the Roper home which stood on the corner where the P. E. O. Library now stands. Here for many years Mrs. Roper lived with her three daughters, Eloise [Mrs. E. W. Cole]; Susan or 'Tot', as she was familiarly known [Mrs. C. J. Chrestenson] and Florence [Mrs. Samuel Patrick]. Mrs. Roper was a faithful member of the M. E. church, Mt. Pleasant, and for many years tutored the students of Iowa Wesleyan in public speaking and oratory.

Mrs. Roper has been in poor health for several years. Her many friends remember the brilliant and vivacious woman and extend their deepest sympathy to her bereaved family.
