MARY M. CORNICK

The deceased Mary A. Moorehead Cornick, the daughter of John S. and Charlotte Moorehead was born January 13, 1953 [sic:1853], died November 24, 1924, aged 71 years, 10 months and 11 days, was born on a farm in this county on which she grew to womanhood and married Nelson Cornick January 18, 1872. To this union were born ten children. She was converted in early girlhood at which time she affiliated herself with the Methodist church.

She leaves to mourn, the sorrowing husband and following children: John M., Perry and Mrs. Belle Coe of near Burlington, Charles N. of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Edith Farmer of Kellerton, Ia., James J. of near Mt. Pleasant and Anna, Harry E. and Vera at home, one daughter Laura M., dying in infancy, two sisters, Mrs. E. Becker, Mrs. J. Zeigler, both of Mt. Pleasant, and a number of grand children.

The passing of this good woman, fond mother and loving wife will be mourned by her many friends and relatives who all know that God hath taken her to that place where there is no more pain and sorrow, but where all is comfort and joy, where she will be waiting to receive them all in that great day.

This unnamed, undated newspaper obituary was found in the scrapbooks of Mary [Blaut] Abraham, second wife of Captain Lot Abraham; the scrapbooks are currently owned by their great-granddaughter, Martha [Wright] Allen, Mt. Pleasant, IA. [October 2006]
