A HEROINE DEAD.

Dr. Mary Keith died doing her duty as truly as a soldier on the field of battle. The Will Upton family all have been ill with the grip. Mrs. Upton is a sister of Dr. Keith. When Dr. Keith went to the home to care for the family, both parents and three children were down sick. Mrs. Keith worked day and night and the first thing they knew she was fatally ill.

She contracted pneumonia and died after a short illness Sunday night or early Monday morning about two o’clock.

She was born September 23, 1861, her maiden name being Conner. She was an osteopath and practiced here for about five years, after she had practiced in Des Moines and in Chicago. Her mother who is about seventy five years old lived with her and she had but recently rebuilt the pretty little cottage on North Main street. She cared for her mother and looked after her practice and it looks like a very untimely death. It looks occasionally as if those who are needed most are taken away.

Three sisters survive, although Mrs. Upton’s life has been despaired of. They are Mrs. Upton, as already mentioned, Mrs. E. I. Thompson and Mrs. Gertrude Pittman. The funeral was held Wednesday at 2:30 at the house, Rev. H. A. Ingham and Rev. Weston having charge of the services.
