DEATH OF A PIONEER

Mt. Pleasant, Ia., Sept. 19 - [Special]
Mrs. Susanna Williford died last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. D. Trowbridge, on the old Williford homestead southeast of town. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Trowbridge at 2 o’clock. Mrs. Williford is said to have been the first white woman to settle in this county, coming here with her husband, John Williford, in 1834, to Center township, where she has since resided. Her husband died in 1845. The first wheat he had ground for his family, after coming to Iowa, was hauled to Skunk river and floated down the stream in a canoe borrowed from the Indians. Mrs. Williford leaves four children here as follows: W. H. H. Williford, H. M. Williford, Mrs. Hiram Jones and Mrs. J. D. Trowbridge.

The funeral of Mrs. Susanna Williford, the earliest white woman settler in Henry county, was largely attended Sunday afternoon.
