Mt. Pleasant News – December 10, 1945

The funeral service for H.A. Geeseka was held at the Crane Funeral Home Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Laura B. Galer and the Rev. Owen Wilson. Mrs. Dan Winter played the organ. Pallbearers were Robert Willits, Ware Taylor, John Lauger, Harry Kiger, Knight Hartley, and John Wheatley.

Hugh A. Geeseka was born April 24, 1856 in Lee County, Iowa and with his parents, brothers, and sisters came to live on the farm near Mt. Pleasant in 1876, remaining a resident of Henry County until the time of his death, December 6, 1945. He was a graduate of the State Normal School of Kirksville, Missouri, and later studied law at the State University of Iowa graduating a member of the class of 1880. Mr. Geeseka served two terms as clerk of the district court, but gave most of his life to farming and business. The family in 1916 moved to the well know Geeseka home on Broadway in Mt. Pleasant and here the last years were spent. He was for over fifty years a member of the Masonic order. He was not married and is survived by the two sisters with whom he made his home, Miss Flora and Miss Alvena, by his brother, Dr. O. A. Geeseka, and by his nephew, Ralph Geeseka of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mt. Pleasant has lost a good citizen, a beloved neighbor, and a fine gentleman.
