Funeral Held for Mrs. Mary Scott

Funeral Services were held Wednesday January 12, 1949 at 9:00 at St. Alphonsus Church for Mrs. Mary Scott. A requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. J. J. Welsh. The children’s choir sang with Sister Mary Loyola as organist. Pallbearers were Joe Burns, Damien Burns, Everett Moxley, Harvey Long, Robert Burns, and Francis Scott.

Mrs. Mary Scott was born in Germany on January 30, 1858, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hellenthol and passed away at Mercy Hospital, Burlington, Iowa on January 10, 1949 at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 10 days.

When eight years old she came with her parents to America and settled in Iowa. In 1876 she was united in marriage to Patrick Scott. There were 10 children born to this union: six preceded their mother in death. They were: Mrs. Lillian Waters, Mrs. Sadie Burns, Leo, Mike, and John Scott; also one child who died in infancy. Surviving are three daughters and one son: Mrs. Ann Hatch of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Della Johnson and Mrs. Mary Statter both of Burlington, and James Scott of Denver, Colorado. She also left three sisters: Mrs. Andy Glanzman, Mrs. Lena Bertlshofer, Burlington, and Mrs. Sophia Herr of Mediapolos.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Kingston, Iowa.
