Perry Floyd Byers Funeral Tuesday

Perry Floyd Byers, son of Perry and Ruth Byers, was born August 4, 1889, in Henry county near Salem, and passed away at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, January 20, 1946, at the age of fifty-six years, five month and sixteen days.

On October 26, 1912, he was united in marriage to Winnifred Taylor. They farmed in the vicinity of Salem until 1931 when they moved to a farm near West Branch. It was in this community that he resided at the time of his death.

To this union were born six children: Vernon of West Liberty, Cleo, Leland and Carol at home; Thelma, now Mrs. Dale Smith of Tipton, and Darlene, now Mrs. Gerald Nevins of West Liberty. Surviving are the wife, these children and one grandson, Barry Smith.

He also leaves to mourn his passing three sisters and two brothers as follows: Mrs. Nettie Bunker and Mrs. Zylpha Hannah of Mt. Pleasant, Ia.; Mrs. Hattie Strieb of Longview, Wash; Leonard Byers of Beloit, Wisc. and Harvey Byers of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Byers united with the Methodist church in Salem and was a faithful member while living there. Later he transferred his membership to West Branch. Here he made many more lasting friends and was always interested in the welfare of the community. For many years he was a member and president of the school board at Downey, giving freely of his time and efforts.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in West Branch on January 22nd at 12:30 p.m. and interment was made in the Friends cemetery at Salem. Rev. James P. Gable former pastor of the West Branch Methodist church officiated at the final rites.
