Mae Ferguson 1912 - 2003

Mae Ferguson, 91, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Henry County Health Center.

Born April 2, 1912, in Wayland, she was the daughter of Harvey and Leah Richard Eicher. On Dec. 7, 1941, she married Lynn Ferguson in Ottumwa. He died Jan. 5, 1994.

Mae farmed with her husband northwest of Washington for 20 years, moving to Mount Pleasant in 1959. For the next 15 years, she worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant as a cook and housekeeper.

She attended Wayland schools. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting and planting flowers in her flowerbed. She was an avid Hawkeye basketball fan.

Survivors include two sisters, Esther Anderson and Vivian Waters, both of Mount Pleasant; one niece; one nephew; four great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one niece.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Ferguson will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church and American Diabetes Association.
