Glenn Honsey Widmer, 82, of Wayland, formally of Washington, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Parkview Home in Wayland.

Born Aug. 28, 1921, in Washington, he was the son of John and Sarah Graber Widmer. On April 10, 1946, he married Jeanne Ione West in White City, Kan.

Mr. Widmer worked for Duke Schlatter Garage in Wayland, Chrysler Garage, West Chester, Kaiser Garage, Fenn Implement, International Harvester, Thompson Motors in Washington and retired from the University Hospital in Iowa City.

He was a 1939 graduate of Wayland High School.

He served in World War II with the Hellcats 12th Armored Division as a corporal. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Croiux De Gere (French medal for liberating Da Qua), three bronze stars and two oak clusters.

He was a member of the VFW Post 2808 and the American Legion. He enjoyed cards, fishing, camping and reading.

Survivors include two sons, George Widmer of Washington and John Widmer of Fairfield; two daughters, Avis Smith of Webster City and Ann Moore of Washington; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a son.

A graveside memorial service with military rites will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, with the Rev. Charles W. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington until 4 p.m. Monday.

A memorial has been established for the Parkview Home in Wayland.
