Linda Sue Chance, 47, 307 N. Marion St., Mount Pleasant, died at 8:11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Aug. 3, 1955, she was the daughter of Donald I. and Wilma Jean Smith Ritz.

Ms. Chance first volunteered as a receptionist for Tolson Community Action Center. She then worked at SEICO Head Start Program with 3- to 5-year-olds and moved on to the early Head Start program.

She received her secondary education and attended college at Southeastern Community College, where she studied in the clerical and accounting programs. She then secured her Child Development Associate certificate for 3- to 5-year-olds and worked for SEICO Head Start Program with 3- to 5-year-olds. At the same time, she studied to receive her CDA for early Head Start. Following her certification in 1995, she moved to the early Head Start program.

She attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Brian Chance of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Jamie Cruz and Brandi Chance, both of Mount Pleasant; three grandchildren; her father of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Debra Ellis of Richland, Mo.; and three brothers, Ed Ritz of Wayland and Richard Ritz and Mike Ritz, both of Mount Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weir Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral for Ms. Chance will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with Pastor Jeffrey Crawford of Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant officiating. Burial will be in Lambirth Cemetery in rural Lockridge.

A memorial has been established.
