Lois Hochstetler 1929 - 2002

Lois L. Hochstetler, 73, of Bonita Springs, Fla., formerly of the Wayland area, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at her home, suffering from the rare lung disease interstitial fibrosis.

Born March 5, 1929, in Wayland, she was the daughter of Henry and Leona Miller Leichty. She married Henry J. Hochstetler on Sept. 12, 1948, at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church near Wayland.

Mrs. Hochstetler was a graduate of Wayland High School. She was active with the family R/V businesses in Elkhart, Ind. She was a partner in Travelmaster Inc., a manufacturing concern, and in Elkhart Travel Center and KOA Elkhart, a dealership and campground operation, for 18 years. After the businesses were sold, she joined her husband in co-managing Imperial Bonita Estates in Bonita Springs for six years. The couple later former Hochstetler Realty Inc. in Bonita Springs.

She was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs. She was known for her willingness to serve others and for her organizational skills is presenting church suppers and arranging floral decorations at church functions. She loved to quilt, sew, travel, cook and entertain friends in her home. She and her husband traveled to all 50 states, all Canadian provinces and many European countries.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Steven D. of Bristol, Tenn., and David H. of Elkhart, Ind.; two daughters, Cynthia A. Wiegard of Osceola, Ind., and Patricia Lindsey of Bonita Springs; 10 brothers, Edwin C. Leichty of Villisaca, Ellis W., Marion L., Royce and Richard L. Leichty, all of Mount Pleasant, Larry Leichty of Wayland, Calvin F. Leichty of Crawfordsville, Dwight D. Leichty of Tucson, Ariz., Wesley Leichty of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Douglas Leichty of Rock Island, Ill.; one sister, Doris Mullet of Vancouver, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Bethel Mennonite Church, north of Wayland, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Hochstetler will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Phil Slabaugh officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs landscape project.

Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is in charge of arrangements.
