Emma Almeda Cooper, 82, of New London Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of 2838 Hwy. 218, rural Mount Pleasant, died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at the nursing home.

Born Aug. 4, 1919, in Trenton, she was the daughter of William Walter and Nora Ellen Shumaker Ridinger. On April 27, 1940, she married Marcellus Charles Cooper in Kahoka, Mo. He died Aug. 7, 1985, in Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker.

She attended school in Trenton and Wayland. She loved gardening and will be remembered for the large strawberry patch she raised. Many people came to her for their supply of strawberries.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Ann Robison of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two grandchildren; and one sister, Freda Lauferman of Houston.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.

There will be no visitation.

There will be a private family funeral service for Mrs. Cooper. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.
