Katharyn Iwanowski, 74, of Noble, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Parkview Home in Wayland.

Born July 29, 1927, in Kerebovo, Belarus, Russia, she was the daughter of John and Maria Dashkiewich. She married Leon Iwanowski on July 6, 1948, in Altenmorkt.

Upon her arrival in Iowa in 1950, Mrs. Iwanowski was given an English Bible, with which she compared words in her Russia Bible so she could learn the language. She cleaned houses, prepared meals at The Coffee Cup Restaurant in Olds and offered a helping hand when needed.

She was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church. She loved quilting at the WMSC sewing circles and creating beautiful flower arrangements, as well as traveling with the John Birch Society to speak against Communism. She was an excellent homemaker, wife and mother.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Wesley of Knoxville and Victor of Muscatine; three brothers, Alex Dashkiewich of Blairstow, N.J., and Dymitry and Nick Dashkiewich, both of South River, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Bethel Mennonite Church, north of Wayland, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Iwanowski will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for her church.

Beatty Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
