Doyle Howard Pfeifer, 90, of Mount Pleasant, died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born July 26, 1911, in Keota, he was the son of W.J. and Amelia Frank Pfeifer. He married Melvine Hixson on July 4, 1938. They later were divorced.

Mr. Pfeifer was a farmer and later worked as custodian at Wayland High School and Mount Pleasant Mental Health Institute.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Dan of Burlington; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.

The funeral for Mr. Pfeifer will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Forest Home Cemetery, with the Rev. Keith Haerer officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the chapel. There will be no visitation at Beatty Funeral Home.
