Alie William Eichelberger, 81, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.

Born July 4, 1920, in Henry County southwest of Wayland, he was the son of William and Katie Graber Eichelberger. On Nov. 28, 1940, he married Ethel Zieglowsky of Washington, Iowa, at the home of the Rev. Simon Gingerich. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1964. On March 26, 1967, he married Barbara Miller at the Kalona Mennonite Church.

Mr. Eichelberger was a lifelong member of the Wayland community. He was a farmer most of his life and bought and sold used cars. He was a baptized in the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and was a lifelong member. He was a member of the Washington Farm Bureau.

Along with his wife, he is survived by three sons, Roger Eichelberger of Hesston, Kan., Dean Eichelberger of Wayland and Lynn Eichelberger of Hesston; two daughters, Sharlene Reichenberger of Wichita, Kan., and Lisa Eichelberger of Minnetonka, Minn.; two brothers, Cal Eichelberger of Sarasota, Fla., and Orrin Eichelberger of Wichita; and four sisters, Alice Martin of Hesston, Aldine Wyse of Middlebury, Ind., Donna Horst of Garden City Kan., and Anita Swartzendruber of Wayland. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, his mother and a son.

Visitation for Mr. Eichelberger will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church south of Wayland. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall.

Burial will at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Sugar Creek Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Roger Farmer officiating. The casket will remain closed.

Memorials have been established to the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and the Parkview Home.

Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, Mount Pleasant, is in charge of arrangements.
