John W. Peterson, 62, of St. Charles, Mo., formerly of the Olds, Swedesburg and Burlington areas, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at his home.

Born Jan. 13, 1939, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Kenneth and Ina Mae Boshart Peterson. On Aug. 1, 1958, he married Janice Johnson in Nashua.

Mr. Peterson worked in the airline industry for 36 years. He lived in Burlington from 1958 to 1983 where he worked for Ozark Airlines as a customer service agent. He also farmed and delivered freight. He was transferred by Ozark Airlines to St. Charles in 1983. He later worked for Trans World Airlines after it bought Ozark Airlines until he retired in 1996.

As a youth, he was baptized into the Mennonite Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Olds High School. While living in Burlington, he was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church. While living in St. Charles, he was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He enjoyed making birdhouses and feeding birds and squirrels. His greatest love was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ron Peterson of Burlington and Matt Peterson of St. Charles; one daughter, Cindy Mueller of Muscatine; his mother of Wayland; six grandchildren; one brother, Carroll Peterson of Pella; one sister, Anna Marie Peterson of Kansas City, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and one grandson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Peterson will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swedesburg Evangelical Luth-eran Church. Burial will be in Swedesburg Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Swedesburg Cemetery and Hope Lutheran Church in St. Charles.
