Harry Albert Hesseltine, 52, formerly of Wayland, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Born Dec. 30, 1948, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Victor and Lucy Fountain Hesseltine. He married Pat Gorvin on Sept. 4, 1976, at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City. They were later divorced.

Mr. Hesseltine was a 1967 graduate of Waco High School and attended the University of Iowa. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked as a mechanic at Sinn Trucking in Wayland, J & H Mechanics and Coralville Frame and Axle.

He was a member of Cottonwood United Methodist Church, near Wayland, American Legion Post 721 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3949 in Iowa City.

Survivors include his mother of Wayland; three sons, Harry Hesseltine II of Iowa City, and Clinton and Christopher Hesseltine, both of Coralville; one brother, Tom Hesseltine of Wayland; and three sisters, Jerry Sanchez of Rockport, Texas, Peggy Cassens of Sigourney and Sarah Piper of Wayland.

He was prececed in death by his father, one brother and one sister.

The memorial service for Mr. Hesseltine will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cottonwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is in charge of arrangements.
