Lavina Leichty, 90, of Wayland, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Parkview Home in Wayland.

Born Jan. 13, 1911, in rural Wayland, she was the daughter of Ben R. and Mary Graber Roth. On July 30, 1931, she married Simon Leichty in Noble. He died in 1986.

Mrs. Leichty and her husband lived on a farm in the Finley community until 1975 when they moved to Wayland.

She was a lifetime member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and enjoyed attending WMSA as long as her health allowed. She was a resident of Parkview Home since February 1991.

Survivors include five daughters, Esther Marner of Kalona, Rachel Leichty of Winslow, Ariz., Lorene Leichty of Wayland, Anna Lewis of Atalissa and Phyllis Schlatter of Mount Pleasant; five sons, Orlin Leichty and Wilbur Leichty, both of Wayland, Russell Leichty of Fort Wayne, Ind., Roger Leichty of Harrisonburg, Va., and Kenneth Leichty of Wellman; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon Roth of Mount Pleasant and Edwin Roth of Carlsbad, N.M.; two sisters, Stella Wenger of Wayland and Lucille Swartzendruber of Olds; and three sisters-in-law.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister-in-law and one great-grandson.

The funeral for Mrs. Leichty was Saturday. Burial was in Sugar Creek Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.

Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland handled the arrangements.
