Willis J. "Bill" Conrad, 88, of Park Place Care Center in Mount Pleasant, formerly of Crawfordsville, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born Dec. 30, 1912, in Noble, he was the son of Joe and Goldie Messenger Conrad. He married Irene Roush on Aug. 27, 1936, in Kahoka, Mo.
Mr. Conrad was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School. He was a truck driver, worked on farm machinery, worked for the city of Crawfordsville and at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He also worked as a barber for many years.
He was a member of the United Church of Crawfordsville and a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge, where he was a past master.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lyle Conrad of Olds and Lynn Conrad of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Gail DaParma of Thief River Falls, Minn.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Ewoldt of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Visitation will begin at noon today at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. A Masonic service will be at 6:30 p.m., after which the family will receive friends until 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Conrad will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Crawfordsville with the Rev. Jo Hoover officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, east of Wayland.
A memorial has been established for Crawfordsville First Responders.
