Lester E. Biggerstaff, 80, of Winfield, died Monday morning, Dec. 5, 2005, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Born April 5, 1925, in Fort Collins, Colo., he was the son of Harry and Elsie Swanson Biggerstaff. On July 21, 1946, he married Crystal Baird. She died in 1971. In 1973, he married Margaret Boysen Werner.
Mr. Biggerstaff farmed from 1946 through 2000.
He was a 1943 graduate of Morning Sun High School. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He served as a boys 4–H leader and was a county youth committee member. He was an active Lions Club member in Morning Sun, serving as president and vice president and as district governor. He was a member of the Morning Sun American Legion for 37 years. He served as an elder and Sunday school teacher at Morning Sun First United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joyce Allen of Lakewood Calif., Margaret Biggerstaff of Minneapolis and Carla Biggerstaff of Brookfield, Wis.; three sons, James Biggerstaff of Carroll, Leonard Biggerstaff of Raleigh, N.C., and David Biggerstaff of Clive; two stepchildren, Ted Werner of Danville and Trudy Sharp of Marshalltown; 20 grandchildren; and two great–grandchildren.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.
Visitation will be Wednesday morning at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Biggerstaff will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Honts Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lester Honson officiating. Burial will be Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.
Memorials have been established for Morning Sun Lions Club and Winfield First Responders.
