Shirley Mae Arnold, 79, of New London, formerly of Denmark and Fort Madison, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.

Born Nov. 10, 1925, in Chillicothe, Ill., she was the daughter of Clarence and Gladys Price Lincoln. On Sept. 10, 1950, she married Charles Vinton Arnold in Fort Madison. He died Jan. 9, 1991.

Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker. She was a member of Dove Fellowship in Olds, Jolly Twenty, Merrymakers, Plymouth Circle and New London Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, John Arnold of New London; one daughter, Pansy A. Swailes of New London; and four grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Arnold will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Richard White officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be at a later date in Burge Cemetery in New London.
