James L. Brown 1917 - 2005

James Leonard Brown, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

According to his wishes, Mr. Brown has been cremated. Arrangements are being handled by the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant.

Leonard was born on January 23, 1917, in the Salem Township of Henry County, to Emerson and Annis Belle McDowell Brown. He attended country school, Mapleleaf #6 Tippecanoe, and Salem High School. On February 18, 1939, he married Helen Louise Martin in Washington, Iowa. She survives.

After high school, Mr. Brown began farming. In 1943 he purchased a farm and farmed that area north of Glasgow, Iowa, until 1975. He then moved to Mt. Pleasant and worked for Midwest Old Threshers for two years and REC for two years following that.

Mr. Brown was a former member of the Glasgow Methodist Church.

Along with his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by one daughter, Doris and her husband Burton Shellabarger of Woodward, Iowa; two sons, William Brown and his wife Betty of Des Moines, Iowa, and Wendell Brown of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one brother, Chester Brown, and his wife Phyllis of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; and one sister, Lena Burkey of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Neva Chrisinger
