Ethel Miller 1921 - 2003

Ethel Miller, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Farmington, IA, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Miller’s body has been donated to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for medical science research.

A memorial service will be held for Ethel and her husband Amel, on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service. Inurnment will be held at the Keokuk National Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association in her memory.

Ethel Eunice Miller was born December 18, 1921, in New London, IA, the daughter of Clarence and Florence Willey Smith. She attended school in New London, where she graduated from high school. On August 2, 1941, she married Amel Wayne Miller, Sr. in Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2003.

Mrs. Miller lived in the Danville area, until moving to Farmington in 1952. There she farmed with her husband for many years until their retirement. Ethel also worked at Harmony High School as a cook.

The Millers moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2000. Ethel was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Homemakers Club and the Farmington Bible Study Group. She also volunteered as a cook for family and church camps. Ethel loved children and spending time in her garden and working with her flowers.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley and her husband Dan Spray of West Union, IA, and Theresa and her husband John Robertson of Farmington, IA; two sons, Amel Miller and his wife Barb of Owasso, OK, and Raymond Miller and his wife Debbie of Keokuk, IA. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Amel, one brother Lawrence Smith, one sister, Cartha Blythe, and by three great-grandchildren.
