A message was received by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest G. Chrissinger here this morning from the war department that their son, 2nd Lieut. Donald E. Chrissinger, 24, had been killed in action in the European theater.
Lieut. Chrissinger had been piloting on the famous Mustang fighters, and had written only recently, mentioning that he had been placed secon in leadership in his group. He had been received the air medal and other recognition fro his work. A news report received from the western front a few days ago by the News also related how he had shot down an enemy plane over Germany.
A Mt. Pleasant high school student, he enlisted in the service on Sept. 18, 1941, after finishing a preliminary flying course at the local airfield.
After completing his training, he spent may months in the Panama Canal area, and upon returning to the states, wa assigned to overseas duty in the European theater.
While at home here, he spoke before local groups relating his experiences in the canal zone and telling the training procedure in the air corps.
