One of four sons in service killed
Special to the Hawk-Eye Gazette.
Salem, Iowa -- George W. Guernsey Jr., one of four sons in service has been reported killed as a prisoner of war of the Japanese, according to (a) War Department message to his mother, who now resides at Urbana, Missouri.
He was reported missing last October when a Jap prison ship was sunk. He had been a prisoner since the fall of the Philippines.
Another son, Charles E., was reported missing after the sinking of the USS Houston, and no further word has been received since March 14, 1942.
A third son, Sergeant Homer L. Guernsey, is now somewhere in Italy, and the other son, Richard G. Guernsey, is somewhere in the South Pacific.
