Zella M. Farmer

July 25, 1925-February 7, 2005

ELDORA—Zella M. Farmer, 79, of Eldora died from natural causes on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Eldora with the Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the Hardin County Historical Society or to the family. Zella was born July 25, 1925, in Dows, daughter of George and Ora (Porter) Flett. She was raised in the Radcliffe and New Providence areas graduating from New Providence High School. She then attended Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines. Zella spent most of her adult life in Eldora where she worked as a surgical technician at the Eldora Community Hospital for 26 years. She was married to Bud Reagan and later divorced. On April 7, 1979, Zella was united in marriage to Gene Farmer in Eldora.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eldora where she was involved with the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Hardin County Historical Society and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In her younger years, Zella enjoyed bowling with the Eldora Women’s Bowling League, and had bowled in several state tournaments. More recently Zella enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Surviving is her husband, Gene; son, David L. Reagan of Moscow, Iowa; stepchildren, Larry and wife Jan Farmer of Ashville, N.C., Cynthia Mayer of Marshalltown, John and wife Mary Bea Farmer of Eldora, Jerry and wife Carol Maxfield Farmer of Marshalltown, and Thomas and wife Erin Farmer of Rocklin, Calif.; 15 step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, James Flett; and half-brother, Davis Birdwell.

Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is handling arrangements.
