IOWA FALLS - Fred R. Myers, 75, of Iowa Falls died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls Chapel, with Pastor Steve Hill officiating. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 1, from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family in care of his wife, Marlene Myers, 916 Elizabeth, Iowa Falls, IA 50126.
Fred was born Feb. 23, 1928, at Iowa Falls to Elias (Mel) and Lucy Mae (Percy) Myers. He attended the Iowa Falls Community Schools. Fred served with the U.S. Navy from 1945-49 on the USS Princeton. On June 9, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marlene Rose Ristler at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Fred was employed by Iowa Electric Light and Power, retiring in 1984. He also owned and operated Myers Electric in Iowa Falls. Fred was a member of the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1331, both of Iowa Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene, of Iowa Falls; one son, Jerry L. and wife Nancy of Iowa Falls; one daughter, Julie Herrold and husband Robert of Eldora; four grandchildren, Michael Myers and wife Kristen of Alton, Ill., Katie Long and husband Nick of Indianapolis, Ind., Gregory Herrold and fiancee' Nicole Clausing of Waterloo, and Sarah Kay Anema and husband Jesse of West Des Moines; and one great-granddaughter, Reagan Scout Long of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Swanke; and three brothers, Roy, Robert and Vere.
