WEBSTER CITY - Howard Kenneth Lake, 82, of Webster City died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 29, at Foster Funeral Home in Webster City with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Burial was in the Cass Township Cemetery, north of Webster City. Graveside military rites were conducted by the American Legion Post No. 191.
Howard was born April 18, 1921, to Charley and Oca (Katsch) Lake on a farm in Ellis Township in Hardin County. On Aug. 24, 1941, he was united in marriage to Marcelyn Hudson at Albany, Mo. The couple resided in Des Moines where Howard was employed by A & P Grocery, moving later to Webster City when he started working with Brin's Furniture.
During WWII, Howard served with the U.S. Army-Infantry in the Pacific Theatre. Following his discharge, he drove a gravel truck for Virgil Liittschwager Construction at Buckeye. Howard had farmed in Ellis Township, worked at Beam Manufacturing (Electrolux), worked at the Flugstad Elevator, managed the Lehigh Elevator and worked at the Raven Lumber and Saw Mill. He returned to Brin's Furniture, where he worked for several years, followed by employment with Gambles and Von Feldt Furniture until his retirement. He was a former member of the Webster City Moose and the American Legion Post No. 191.
Survivors include his three sons, Elba and wife Jean and Andrew and wife Pat all of Fort Dodge, and Kenneth of Webster City; two daughters, Jane Felts and Lexie Spencer and husband Michael all of Webster City; 11 grandchildren; his special friend, Norma Lake of Webster City; three sisters, Letha Hanson of Hubbard, Arleta Evans of Dows and Lois Terry of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelyn; his parents; a brother, Emery Lake; and a sister, Gail Brightwell.
