CRESTON - Lloyd L. Palmitier, 84, of Creston died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at his home in Creston. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 22, at the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Elm St., Creston, with Rev. Clark Finehout officiating. Interment will be Monday, Dec. 22, at 4 p.m. at the East Lawn Memory Gardens east of Eldora. Graveside military rites will be by the Walter Sayer American Legion Past No. 182 and the Roll Harless V.F.W. Post No. 3984, both of Eldora. The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 21, from 2-8 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., Creston. Memorials may be directed to the Creston United Methodist Church or the Green Valley Hospice.
Lloyd was born April 13, 1919, in Sioux City to Lloyd R. and Cora (Ketchmark) Palmitier. He graduated from Stuart High School in 1938. On May 4, 1941, he was united in marriage to Betty L. Crippen in Eldora. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during W.W.II. Betty made her home in Eldora. After his discharge in 1945, Lloyd was employed by the Jefferson Bus Co. in Minneapolis, Minn. They moved back to Eldora, and he started working for the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. In 1968, he transferred to Creston, where he served as the District Manager, retiring in 1981.
Lloyd served on the Creston City Council. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Elk's Lodge, and the Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797 V.F.W., all of Creston. He was formerly a member of the Creston Rotary, the Eldora Kiwanis Club, and was past president of the Creston Chamber of Commerce and the Crestmoor Golf Club. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge of Eldora.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Creston; three sons, David and wife Marcia of Ankeny, Steven and wife Teresa of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jack and wife Joy of Creston; one daughter, Cheri May and husband Dan of Adams, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Theodora Weeks; and two brothers, LaVerne and Bobby Palmitier.
