ACKLEY-Darlene Mae Heetland, 65, of Ackley died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley with Rev. Tim Diehl and Rev. Larry Hoop officiating. Burial will be at the Faith Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Ackley.
Darlene was born May 16, 1938, in rural Grundy County to Alvin and Grace (Muller) Stahl. She received her education in country school and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1956. After graduation she worked at the Grundy Center grocery store. Darlene joined the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church on March 17, 1956. On Dec. 15, 1958, Darlene married Virgil Heetland at Colfax Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and farm wife on the couple's farm south of Ackley. She enjoyed music and for many years gave piano lessons. She worked in the activities department at the Presbyterian Village from 1990-97 and at the Muller's Tea Room after that. She was more recently employed at the Sietsema Funeral Home. Darlene was a charter member of the Faith Presbyterian Church where she was an organist, Sunday school teacher, women's Bible study leader, church financial secretary and WIC officer. She was also a coordinator for the Rural Activities Program and an active member of Fellowship of Christian Farmers.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil, of Ackley; a daughter Valerie Cook and husband Jeff of Hubbard; four sons, Lynn and wife Lynette of Waukee, Gary and wife Lorna of Ackley, Kendall and wife Maria of North Aurora, Ill., and Rodney and girlfriend Jamie Weeks of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10 grandchildren, her parents; three brothers, Larry Stahl and wife Carolyn of Grundy Center, Dennis Stahl and wife Margaret of Grundy Center and Curtis Stahl and wife Peg of Holland.
Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley is handling arrangements.
