ALDEN-John E. Neubauer Jr., 81, of Alden died Thursday, December 11, 2003, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Monday, December 15, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Alden with Rev. Rick Layman officiating. Burial will be at the Alden Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, from 2-4 p.m. at Surls Funeral Home in Alden. Military rites will be conducted by the Collins-Dunning American Legion Post No. 201 of Alden.

John was born September 8, 1922, in Donna, Texas, to John and Dora (Macham) Neubauer Sr. He attended school in Donna before moving to Alden when he was 16. On Oct. 9, 1942, he married Mary Nicholas at the United Methodist Church in Owasa. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II, under General Patton building bridges. John had worked for area farmers, Chetwood N & N Sinclair, and then for Dave Lancaster Fabrication. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Alden; three sons, Duaine of Jacksonville, Fla., Chester and Laurence both of Alden; two daughters, Carol Harms of Alden and Donna Young of Mt. Ayr; 16 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents.
Surls Funeral Home in Alden is in charge of arrangements.
