NEW PROVIDENCE - Doris H. Faris, 78, formerly of rural New Providence, died at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls Monday, Dec. 1, 2003. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, at the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church in New Providence. Burial followed in the New Providence Cemetery. Doris was born March 25, 1925, in Iowa Falls daughter of Carl H. and Ruth (Leonard) Meyer. She was raised and educated in the Iowa Falls area where she graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1943 and Ellsworth Community College in 1946. Following her graduation, Doris taught school in New Providence for the third and fourth grade classes. On June 1, 1948, in Iowa Falls, Doris was united in marriage to Bob Faris. Doris and Bob made their home in rural New Providence for many years where they both actively operated their family farm. She was an avid fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and enjoyed all sports, but especially enjoyed watching her daughter, Carol Ann, play softball. Doris was a member of the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church where she served on the ladies auxiliary, the funeral committee and played in the Friday afternoon "Green Jade" card club.
Doris is survived by her husband, Bob, of Iowa Falls; her daughter, Carol Ann and husband David Wilson, of Saskatoon, Saskachewan, Canada, and her grandchildren, Megan and Ryan Wilson, both of Saskatoon. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ruth.
