ELDORA - Doris M. Van Patter, 85, of Eldora died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial followed at the Eldora City Cemetery in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Doris was born March 3, 1918, at home on the farm north of Hubbard to Edgar and Mildred (Perry) Van Patter. During her childhood, the family moved to a farm southwest of Eldora. Doris then graduated from the Pleasant Center country school in rural Eldora. She began babysitting in 1942, and helped to care for many children of families in the Eldora area. Doris helped her parents on the farm until 1971, when they moved to Eldora. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Traveling, family and friends were among her favorites.
Survivors include one brother, Keith Van Patter, and wife Patricia of Eldora; one nephew, Dennis Van Patter of Lakewood, Colo.; and one niece, Linda Thornton and husband Harley of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Creps-Abels Funeral Home of Eldora was in charge of arrangements.
