IOWA FALLS-Orville Newton Gaulke, 98, of Iowa Falls died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Heritage Care Center at Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 28, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Reverend Brian King officiating. Burial followed at the Morgan Township Cemetery in Franklin County.
Orville was born July 29, 1905, on his parents' farm in Morgan Township, the son of Theodore and Sarah (Bauge) Gaulke. He attended the Dows Public Schools graduating with the class of 1923; four years at Ellsworth College, graduating with the class of 1927; and also the University of Iowa, Iowa City, receiving his master's in business. On May 2, 1925, he was united in marriage to Vera L. Smalldridge at Webster City. Orville taught at Modale, Owasa, Pontiac, Ill., and Kenosha, Wis.; and then took a professorship with his alma mater, Ellsworth College, Iowa Falls, from 1947 to 1970 when he retired. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons: Alan Gaulke of Iowa Falls, Maurice Gaulke and wife Marlene of Ackley, Richard Gaulke and wife Sharon of Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Avron Gaulke and wife Marianne of Clarion; and one sister, Donnabelle Rosburg of San Pablo, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera; one granddaughter, Mary Kay Gaulke; two sisters, Edna Bauge and Inez Bailey; and four brothers, Harry, Lewis, Leo and Fay Gaulke.
