HUBBARD - Henry "Hank" G. Anders, 89, of Hubbard, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 28, at Zion United Church of Christ in Hubbard with Pastor John Attaway officiating. Burial was in the Hubbard Cemetery.
Henry was born on Oct. 29, 1914, to Daniel and Martha (Brinkmeyer) Anders. He grew up on a farm southwest of Hubbard and attended country school through the eighth grade. On Feb. 18, 1945, he was united in marriage to Wilma Smith of Iowa Falls. The couple moved to Hubbard in 1967, after farming near Hubbard, at which time he opened a welding and machine repair shop. In 1979, he retired and was elected to a three year term on the Hubbard Chamber of Commerce. Henry served as Mayor of Hubbard from 1980-81, and served as treasurer of the Hubbard Lions. He was a member of the Garden City Elevator Board and Iowa Blacksmith and Welders Association and Local 203.
After Henry's 65th birthday, he was able to enjoy three RAGBRAI trips with his family members. He also enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Henry was pleased to be chosen as a model for the chainsaw "Farmer" sculpture, located near the Hubbard Care Center. He was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ.
Henry is survived by his wife, Wilma, of Hubbard; three daughters, Suzanne Weires and husband Jim of Ames, Lynne Zagar and husband Phil of Huxley, Ruth Boullion and husband Mike of Iowa Falls; and one son, Louis Anders and wife Denise of Lake City; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Ziebell and Elaine Eller, both of Hubbard. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dale, Wendell and Kenneth Anders; and two sisters, Lucille Bogardus and Regina Johnson.
Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard was in charge of arrangements.
