APLINGTON - Betty Joan Jones, 71, of Aplington died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, from head injuries received in a fall at her home on Thursday evening. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the First Reformed Church in Aplington with Pastor Harlan DeJong officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.
Betty was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Butler County, near Aplington, to John B. and Martha (Hemmen) Hook. She received her education in a rural school near her home. On May 12, 1953, she was united in marriage to Harold E. Jones. The couple lived a few years in Hampton, then moved to California where they lived for seven years. They moved back to Iowa and made their home in Parkersburg, Cedar Falls, Waterloo and then in Aplington. Betty was employed as a nurses's aid in the Franklin General Hospital, the Grundy Center Hospital and at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed helping Harold, keeping house, and making sure the family functions ran smoothly.
Survivors include her husband, Harold; one son, Steven Jones and wife Eileen of Newburgh, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Josh Jones and wife Jenn of Waterloo and Jim Jones and wife Jodi of LaCrescent, Minn.; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ron Hook and wife Rochelle of Sibley and Marvin Hook and wife Joann of Parkersburg; one sister, Shirley Brown and husband Paul of Denver, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Carrigger of Texas and Dorothy Parks of Alexander; and two brothers-in-law, Dale Jones and wife Cam of Salinas, Calif., and Chuck Jones and wife Lorraine of Hampton. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel of Aplington was in charge of arrangements.
