BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Sommai "Mai" Meyer, 39, of Bakersfield, Calif., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, as a result of a car crash in northwest Bakersfield. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 3, in Bakersfield.
Mai was born Dec. 18, 1963, in Vientiene, Laos. Her family moved to Hull, Iowa, in 1976, where she attended school. She graduated in 1988 with a degree in finance from the University of Iowa. Mai married Dan Meyer of Ackley after moving to Taft, Calif. from Iowa City. She was a member of the Chinese Women's Club of Bakersfield, and was the current president of the Business Women's Club of Bakersfield.
She is survived by her husband, Dan; two daughters, Whitney and Alexandria; three brothers; and five sisters; in-laws Glenn and Roberta Meyer of Ackley, three sisters-in-law Deborah Muller of Iowa Falls, Tamara Fitzpatrick of Wheaton, Ill., and Angie Risius of Ackley; and a brother-in-law Tony Meyer of Crown Point, Ind. Preceding her in death were her parents.
