SUN CITY, Ariz. - Bessie M. Paullus, 79, of Sun City, Ariz., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the Sun City Health Hospice Care Center in Sun City West. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Hampton with Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 20, from 4-7 p.m. at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Bessie was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Iowa Falls to William and Effie (Brockway) Brass. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School. On April 6, 1946, she married Ralph D. Paullus at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed near Hampton for 23 years. They purchased the Hampton Tax Service in 1970, where she was secretary. In 1989, they moved to Sun City.
Bessie participated in Mother's Clubs and TTT. For several years she was secretary at the Franklin County Fair. Bessie enjoyed doing volunteer work at hospitals, the Welcome Center and the Sun Dome. She was an active church member, serving as chairperson of the ushers and kitchen workers.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph; one sister, Helen Bretherton of Bossier City, La; three daughters, Diane Samsal of Bloomington, Minn., Linda Schomburg and husband David of Rosemount, Minn., and Peggy Rodemeyer and husband Jeff of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lyman.
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton is in charge of arrangements.
