ELDORA - Lorraine A. Schroeder, 74, of Eldora died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 15, 10:30 a.m. at at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Mary Stonebraker of St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery.
Lorraine was born June 20, 1929, in Pomeroy to William and Tillie (Rietmeir) Jesse. She was raised near Palmer where she graduated from high school in 1947. On July 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to John Henry Schroeder. They lived in California for a short time while John was serving in the Navy, returning to Iowa following his discharge. The couple farmed in the Palmer area for several years before moving to Eldora in 1963. She was employed Dodger Industries until she opened Busy Bee Day Care out of her home, which she operated for 40 years, closing last November.
Lorraine was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. She was a member of the Eldora Women's Bowling Association and the State Women's Bowling Association, and was recognized for her 40-year perfect attendance record for Tuesday league bowling. Needlework and elaborate Christmas light displays at her home were among her favorites.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Henning and husband Jeff of Eldora and Cheryl Aswegan of Little Falls, Minn.; one son, Dennis Schroeder and wife Ann of Eldora; three granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one brother, Robert Jesse; and one son-in-law, Ronald Aswegan.
