WELLSBURG - Donna J. (Johns) Abbas Doyen, 71, of Wellsburg died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Todd Rempe officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Donna was born March 1, 1932, to Robert and Luella (Lang) Johns at Ackley. She attended Colo High School, graduating in 1950. Donna was employed by Lenox Manufacturing in Marshalltown. In 1952, she was united in marriage to George Abbas in Ackley. The couple moved to Wichita, Kan., where she was employed by Boeing Aircraft. They later moved to Chicago, Ill., while George attended mortuary school. After a year in Lake Mills, they bought a funeral home in Denver, Matthias-Abbas Funeral Home, which they operated together. Following the sale of the funeral home, they lived in Ackley for one year before purchasing a funeral home in Grundy Center, Ferree-Abbas Funeral Home, which they operated until 1969.

On June 6, 1970, Donna was united in marriage to John Doyen at Wellsburg. Donna helped with the family business, Doyen Funeral Home, until 1986, at which time they retired. Donna was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed music and animals.

Survivors include one daughter, Monica Kruse and husband Bob of Conrad; one son, Joseph Doyen of Wellsburg; three step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin "Bud" Johns and wife Lorna of Des Moines and Douglas Johns of Colo; two sisters, Charlene Tanner and husband Tom of Washington and LaVonne Johnson of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Abbas; her husband, John Doyen; two brothers, Paul Johns and Robert Johns Jr.; two sisters, Grace Sietsema and Pearl Thompson; and two siblings in infancy.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
