IOWA FALLS - Blanche Gilbert, 90, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Linn's Funeral Home Chapel in Iowa Falls with Rev. Margaret Debner officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends between 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls.

Blanche was born July 14, 1913, on her parents' farm in Dallas County to Orva and Laura (Wagner) Myers. She attended Adel Community School graduating with the class of 1932 Blanche received her Registered Nursing Degree at Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines. She worked as a registered nurse for several years, including employment with Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. On Jan. 16, 1940, she was united in marriage to C. Harold Gilbert III at her parents' home near Adel. The couple made their home in Ellis Township at Locust Lawn Farms, southwest of Iowa Falls, where they raised corn, beans, hogs, cattle, sheep and chickens. After retiring, they enjoyed flea markets. Blanche was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa Falls.

Survivors include her daughter, Liz Gilbert of Iowa Falls; Charles H. Gilbert IV and wife Carol of Iowa Falls; two granddaughters, Kim Van Pelt and husband Jeff of Greenville, S.C., and Suzanne Askelsen and husband Chad of Madrid; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Van Pelt of Greenville and Mason Askelsen of Madrid; one brother, Harold Norris and wife Billie of Iowa City; one sister-in-law, Virginia Myers of Indianola; and one brother-in-law, Bill Gilbert and wife Mary of Iowa Falls. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Frank (in infancy) and Howard.
