BUCKEYE - Marlyn Carl Runge, 79, of Buckeye died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Peace United Church of Christ with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Buckeye VFW Post No. 1886. Burial was in the Buckeye Cemetery, rural Buckeye.

Marlyn was born Dec. 28, 1923, to Carl and Hedwig "Hattie" (Lettow) Runge at the family farm, rural Buckeye. He was a 1941 graduate of Buckeye High School. Marlyn served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was the chief escort and guard at the Nuremberg Trial. On Sept. 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Frances Steelman at Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Buckeye, serving on the church board. Marlyn was a 44-year member of the Elks, a member of the Buckeye Community Club, ASCS Township Committeeman, trustee for the Buckeye Cemetery and was the quartermaster for the VFW in Buckeye. He was a life member of Buckeye VFW Post No. 1886 and Collins-Dunning American Legion Post No. 201 of Alden. Hunting, fishing, photography and attending the state fair were among his favorites.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; one son, Jack Runge and wife Terry of Radcliffe; one stepson, Allen Brown and wife Carlene of Arizona City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carolyn Lawrenz.

Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls was in charge of arrangements.
