GRUNDY CENTER - Harvey C. Mackie, 93, of Grundy Center died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Arlington Place in Grundy Center. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Michael Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Shepherd's Children's home in Union Grove, Wis., or to Cedar Valley Hospice.
Harvey was born April 1, 1910, to Jesse and Neta (VanHoy) Mackie on his parents' farm near Union. The family moved to Eldora where he attended school. On Feb. 13, 1934, he was united in marriage to Agnes Dooyema at her parents' farm near Leota, Minn. The couple farmed in rural Grundy Center for 30 years, retiring in 1965, at which time they moved to Grundy Center. In August 2002, they moved to Arlington Place. Harvey was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee and usher. Horses, ponies and woodworking were among his favorites.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes; one son, Vernon Mackie and wife Betty of Grundy Center; one daughter, Marceline Romig and husband Dave of Midlothian, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Walter, Clarence, Gurnie and C. Arthur Mackie; and two sisters, Gertha Diehl and Rose Clemons.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
