APLINGTON - Mildred Willeke, 93, of Aplington died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at maple Manor Care Center in Aplington. Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 13, at the Aplington Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Smith and Rev. Donald Patet officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington. Memorials may be directed to the Baptist Japan Short Term Mission.

Mildred was born Dec. 11, 1909, to Charles and Tillie (Spieker) Willeke in her parents' home in Aplington. She graduated from Aplington High School and enrolled in Mounds-Midway School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minn. Mildred became a registered nurse, working in St. Paul, and during WWII, in the Des Moines Munitions Plant. She returned to Aplington to care for her parents and to work as a partner in the family firm of Charles Willeke and Sons. Mildred was a lifelong member of the Aplington Baptist Church, serving in many capacities, in addition to mission work. Gardening, music and playing the piano were among her favorites.

Survivors include six nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters-in-law.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel of Aplington was in charge of arrangements.
