A FALLS - Jack Wellen, 83, of Iowa Falls died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls with Rev. Don Preston officiating. Burial will be at Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Military honors will be provided by Hyman-Peavy American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 6-8 p.m. at the Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel.

Jack was born July 12, 1920, in Fort Dodge to LaGora "Jack" and Hazel (Pettibone) Wellen. He was raised and attended school in Iowa Falls, graduating with the class of 1937. Jack served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Mike's for Men Clothing in Iowa Falls and volunteered with the Iowa Falls Nutrition Site. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls, serving on the Honor Guard for over 50 years.

Survivors include his sister, Phyllis Madole of Iowa Falls; one sister-in-law, Odette Wellen; several nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dick Wellen; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Madole.
